I raised this question a few years ago and the unanimous view at the time was that it is really bad UX, but that it doesn't violate WCAG. My opinion has not changed since then.

Subject: [WebAIM] text which is on a 90 degree rotation

All,

There is a design which one of my team members is reviewing where the visuals have a button where the text is on a 90 degree rotation. Any SC this fails or assistive tech issues? The same for any other type of rotation of text?

Regards
Sean Murphy
